Coronavirus / COVID-19

  • The recent Coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc on the economy, costing many Americans their jobs and their hard-earned money. Kentuckians are no exception.
  • On March 27, 2020, President Trump signed into law a $2 trillion stimulus bill. Among its other provisions, this law will provide $600 extra per week in unemployment insurance benefits (on top of the amount that you would otherwise receive from the Commonwealth of Kentucky).
  • Meyman Law will gladly assist anyone who needs it with filing and navigating their claims for unemployment insurance. While no result is certain, you can increase your chances of qualifying for unemployment benefits if you know what the unemployment office is looking for (with regard to pieces of evidence to submit and what to try to prove).
  • In general, you are more likely to win your unemployment case if you did not engage in misconduct in the workplace. Quitting is also a bad idea, but that is of course unlikely to be an issue during these difficult times.
  • In other words: if you were simply laid off because your employer had to close their facility due to the pandemic, and there was nothing terribly wrong with your performance, then you probably qualify for unemployment insurance. Hopefully, the large influx of claims will not lead to more stringent requirements.
